What is Starcraft 2?
Starcraft 2 was developed and published by Blizzard Entertainment for Windows and Mac OSX. It is a real time strategy video game that is considered a military science fiction. Starcraft II is based of the famous 1998 video game Starcraft. Over the years both SC2 and Brood War have gained a huge traction in competitive esports. For example Starcraft II World Championships Series is an annual event hosted by Blizzard with a prize pool of $700,000.
The growth in competitive Starcraft 2 has forced esports betting sites to offer various bet types, and odds for big matches and tournaments. Our SC2 experts at Gamopo have personally tested all the bookmakers that allow bettors to bet on Starcraft II – we have tested each site and rank them based off various factors. Most of the ratings are based off promotional value, odd comparisons, payment options, and customer support.
Initially the game was a huge hit in the Korea esports community; overtime and soon after the release of Starcraft II the popularity spread across the world to the United States, UK, and Canada. The 2010 release of the series introduced new and innovative features to the game, by improving graphics, gameplay, and developing higher tournament prize pools. The game continues to grow and shows no signs of slowing down as developers continue making upgrades and enhancing user experience.
The growing community has equaled the number of punters looking to bet on Starcraft. Most of the largest online bookmakers now offer odds for Starcraft, and the market has grown rapidly with more bookmakers adding the option each year.
With one of the longest track records in the esports betting industry; Starcraft 2 was released in 2010 by The Blizzard Entertainment Starcraft Franchise as a sequel to the very popular video game that was introduced to the esports community in 1998. The original Starcraft is considered one of the greatest real-time strategy games of its time and paving the way fro more modern games of its kind.
The format of the game is based on real time strategies where two players battle one another while gathering resources, upgrading equipment, and training their army. Before the match begins, players have the option to choose between three different race of characters; Protoss, Terran, and Zerg.
Competitions are generally played in a either 2v2 or 1v1 formats; with the latter being more popular in official events. Players begin by choosing one of the three distinct factions:
- The Terrain: Also referred to as the human faction, with a playing style very adaptable to all three factions
- The Protoss: With a main focus on smaller units, and requiring keen micromanaging skills the hyper advanced race of Protoss is very particular in style.
- The Zerg: Insect like aliens that take on swarms to overwhelm the opponent in numbers.
Overtime players become accustomed to certain factions and begin tailor their strategies to the faction type. When betting on SC2 you should gamble responsibly by researching the player and their strategies in comparison to their opponent before placing your bet.
Note: matches can be played by players using the same faction.

Starcraft Remastered
StarCraft: Remastered is the new edition of the famous original StarCraft title from 1998 and its expansion pack, Brood War. This real-time strategy game from Blizzard Entertainment was released in its improved form on August 14, 2017.
The gameplay is the same as the original, only this time, the graphics and the audio have been significantly improved. As the remastered version came out almost 20 years later, you can certainly expect many modern graphic elements. Nevertheless, the features and gameplay players loved in the past have remained the same.
Because of all of this, the game is still easy to play. In other words, it offers the same experience as the 1998 version. However, you will still need to be good at it if you want to win.
On the other hand, if you want to merely place bets as you would on StarCraft 2, you’ll only have to know the basics and follow the current events in terms of competitions, players, their stats, and more.
How to Play StarCraft: Remastered
The main part of the game is still the same as in the original StarCraft version. However, the online features — or the features you’ll mostly need to be familiar with if you want to bet on StarCraft matches — have been updated. All of this is the result of an effort to make the game fit Blizzard’s modern ensemble.
This essentially means that players will benefit from better multiplayer matchmaking, cloud-syncing of all progress, and social integration with all other games Blizzard makes. Those players who used to enjoy the original game can still sync their progress with the remastered version and continue where they have left off.
As for bettors, the entire betting system is fairly straightforward and similar to other StarCraft and Blizzard titles. You get to place a wide variety of real money bets like you usually do on the sites we’ve already recommend, as most of them cover StarCraft: Remastered betting markets.
In general, you’ll get to place wagers on match outcomes for both teams and individual players. You’ll also get to bet on the winners of tournaments and a few other game-specific aspects. Naturally, you’ll greatly benefit from researching the players and teams, as your bets will have a higher chance of succeeding that way.
StarCraft: Remastered vs StarCraft 2 — Major Differences
If you want to learn all the differences, you just need to take a look at a few comparisons between StarCraft and StarCraft 2. But if you’ve already familiarized yourself with both games, you’re good to go.
If you’re looking for the best experience, we advise you to play the remastered game first, followed by StarCraft 2, as the second game is the sequel. However, if you’re just interested in betting, there’s not much you need to know. The experience is pretty much the same, as you’ll still get to place the same bets you would on StarCraft 2. You only need to learn how the players are doing, what their stats are, and which achievements they had in the past. Many players and teams play both StarCraft 2 and StarCraft: Remastered, so you’ll often run into the same ones.
As you can expect, there are many more tournaments in StarCraft 2, as the game is more popular, so most of your betting should focus on it. However, matches are played in the remastered version of the original StarCraft as well, so there will be instances when you’ll get to place some bets. Just take a look at the sites we offer and search for StarCraft: Remastered betting markets.
