DreamHack
Starting as a small event with a couple of friends and schoolmates in a basement of a school in a tiny town of Malung, Sweden, in 1994, DreamHack grew to the world’s largest digital festival. Yes, the DreamHack hosts from the same-named company from Sweden (DreamHack AB) say that they are the biggest, but they are not far from the truth.
The Guinness Book of Records has already acknowledged DreamHack to be the largest LAN party in the world and the computer festival with the fastest internet connection ever. Another gaming festival from Norway has already beaten the second record, but DreamHack remains a massive gathering you can see every year through events in both North America and Europe.
DreamHack is a collection of several esports tournaments, as it covers games like Counter-Strike, Starcraft II, Heroes of Newerth, Super Smash Bros, Fortnite, and many more.
In this piece, we wanted to talk more about this fantastic digital tournament and share information about the Counter-Strike and Fortnite championships. So, let’s begin!
DreamHack CS:GO
Counter-Strike; Global Offensive is one of the main games played at DreamHack esports events. Teams from all over the world compete at DreamHack time and time again, and the main show was DreamHack Open from 2012 to 2016, when DreamHack Masters began.
Both circuits have featured many DreamHacks over the years, with the last being DreamHack 2019 that consisted of several LAN events all over the world. Unfortunately, due to the current situation in the world, most 2020 DreamHack esports tournaments have been either canceled or moved for 2021.
The exact format of this tournament party has varied over the years, but one thing that remained the same is the number of teams competing. DreamHack always brings six teams by directly inviting them, while two other teams are qualifiers, one from Europe and the other from North America. Something that’s very common in these esports contexts is betting. Please go to csgo betting sites for more information
DreamHack Prize Pool CS:GO
Teams at DreamHack don’t only play CS: GO to get the 1st place title; they also compete for the prizes given out to the best teams. Naturally, the money planned to be awarded to the top teams is in one large prize pool waiting to be divided among the winners.
The prize pool for DreamHack CS: GO varies from event to event and from year to year. Most DreamHack Open events had prize pools of $100,000, with the ones for 2020 ranging from $40,000 to $115,000.
Since DreamHack Masters has been the main CS: GO circuit, its prize pools have correspondingly been bigger. The prize pools at these events had always been $250,000, while the 2020 events had pools ranging from $15,000 to $160,000 as the number of events was set to be higher.
DreamHack Fortnite
Fortnite is the latest addition to the already-burgeoning DreamHack tournaments. The 2020/2021 party lasts from October 2020 to January 2021, and the total prize pool is $250,000. Players from all over North America and Europe can participate by signing up (they don’t have to be part of a league), while the rest of the community can watch the event online on Twitch.
As this is a solo tournament, hundreds of players can enter and play against each other. The contest consists of two heats with 750 players from each of the two advancing to the Grand Final Qualifier. From it, only 100 players will advance to the Grand Final, where each player plays six games. Each player gets points for eliminating others, and once all games are done, players are ranked by points. The player with the most points scored in the game wins the 1st place and the biggest prize.
The great thing about Fortnite is that it’s played on almost any platform. The same is true for the tournament, because players can play it on PC, mobile, PS4, Xbox, and Switch.
DreamHack Prize Pool Fortnite
As we’ve stated, the total prize pool at this event is $250,000, but it’s divided among the top players with the most points scored. Naturally, the higher the player is in the rankings, the bigger their reward will be.
Furthermore, each spot is shared by three players from a specific region. So, the top prizes are $16,000 for the 1st place in the EU region, $10,000 for the 1st place in the North America East region, and $4,000 for the 1st place in the North America West region. The same is true for all other places to be taken, with only the amount being different. Players up to the 100th place win a cash prize.
DreamHack Tournament
It’s hard to describe the DreamHack tournament as it’s not a single tournament, but a collection of many events. It comprises five components: the festival, gaming competitions, digital arts competitions, live concerts, and expo.
The most important part for us is the festival and gaming competitions. Both feature many esports, and players from all over the world participate. However, the most numerous ones are from South Korea.
Where Is DreamHack Located?
DreamHack hosts several gaming competitions for esports players from all over the world and so much more. That’s why each show happens at a different location with a lot of media coverage. At the moment, DreamHack is hosted twice every year at the Elmia exhibition center located in the city of Jonkoping, Sweden, and twice annually in the Expolaris Congresscenter in Skelleftea, Sweden.
Many people come to see and follow the show in Jonkoping. The festival has received a diploma of honor from the municipality as it’s more than just beneficial for the entire community. Moreover, it improves business, education, and society as a whole, with the money and coverage it receives.
In addition to that, DreamHack AB hosts many smaller events and live concerts all over Europe and North America, like DreamHack Dallas, Austin DreamHack, and others.
